If you are visiting Lisbon and want to explore something, not as touristic as the capital, this is one of the best options.
Tomar is 2 hours north Lisbon. We visited it the last week of November. The weather was great since it was sunny and not windy at all.
We didn’t plan this day trip with anticipation, we just woke up late and decided to go.
Tomar, the city of the knights Templar, is a world of history, secrets, and surprises. Climbing up to the Templar castle and discovering the monumental work of the Convent of Christ is a must.
The narrow streets are so charming, many of them have white and yellow walls, and when you walk on them, you can feel how peaceful the city is.
There some cats on the streets and that make the streets even more picturesque.
As you can see in my pictures, this is not a crowded place, and there are so many local restaurants with the best food.
After an excellent meal, we climb to the Convent of Christ which it about 10 min walk. On the way to the Convent, you will have views like this one.
The entrance of the Convent is incredibly beautiful, like a castle. It makes you feel at that time.
The first view of the Convent is just breathtaking. The gardens are incredibly beautiful with the castle in the background.
As you know, we got there late, and it took us 3 hours to visit it all. We didn’t expect it that big, but it was.
The entrance was one of my many favorite parts. The architecture is just unbelievably beautiful.
The famous «Portuguese Tiles» are one of the most beautiful parts of the Convent.

The Charola was born inside the castle’s perimeter wall, as a private oratory of the Knights and with probable sepulchral functions.
The architecture is beyond beautiful, and it presents a centralized circular plant.
